1. The 2023 Ford Bronco SUVs and Ranger pickup trucks have been recalled due to a risk of one or both left wheels disassembling.
2. The issue affects Broncos and Rangers built between February 9th and 13th of this year, totaling 1,434 vehicles.
3 The recall was prompted by improperly tightened lug nuts that could cause the wheel and tire assemblies to come off while driving.
4. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is advising owners of these vehicles to stop driving them.
5. The issue arose when the automated tool used to tighten the wheels on the left side was down for repairs, leading to manual torquing.
6. The right-hand-side wheels were unaffected as the automated lug gun was working properly.
7. It remains unclear how the torque issue was missed during manual installation.
8. Ford has been contacted to clarify what went wrong and whether there will be a fix beyond retorquing the wheels.
9. This is the second major recall for the Bronco, following a transmission issue, and another recall for a popular Ford truck, the F-150 Raptor 37, due to lug nut issues.
10. The recall is a setback for the new 2023 Ranger and reflects ongoing production quality issues at Ford.
