And so the battle continues!
Constant improvements in vehicle sales are another obvious, good sign for our economy and a reason to finally say that thing are going to be better after financial crisis of 2007-2008. Why? Last year was the the third in a row to have an increase in sales of the vehicles, compared to previous. Even more than that, 2012 had the highest numbers on that chart since 2007. So, while maybe you haven’t bought car last year (the author of this article did not, too), many others did.
If you, on other hand, did treat yourself with a new ride, now is your chance to see if your choice is among the top 5 best selling in the United States.
While vehicles are being sold more and more some makes and models are doing better than others and the list changed a bit since last month, let alone the start of the year.
What do you think who is on the number one spot?
5. Dodge Ram
Even though everyone is ignoring new shortened name “Ram Truck” for this full-size pickup truck and new brand (which is supposed to suggest big changes), no one in their right mind can question quality put beneath the hood of this truck. Dodge Ram or just Ram, no matter, this model is selling better than most of the other vehicles on the list with increase in sales of 33.4% over the figures from last year.
Production of Ram trucks started 32 years ago and until now there have been four generations. It always had acclaimed characteristics and won numerous awards from critics and the drivers, but it never did as good as other trucks from Detroit. Recently Chrysler stirred the pot with the announcement of the first 1500 pick up truck with diesel engine which might’ve got the attention of potential buyers.
Be it as it may, it now holds the fifth place on the list with Nissan Altima and Honda Civic far behind as only competition for the spot. On the other hand Ram is selling far better than the holder of the fourth spot and it looks like as if the pickup truck might even advance on the list soon.
4. Honda Accord
First introduced back in 1976, Accord conquered US market relatively quick. It did that, as many say, because it was also the first Japanese car to be fully produced in USA (production started in 1982). Either way, from 1989 there wasn’t a year which didn’t feature Accord on “the most wanted“ list.
It’s not hard to understand why! Honda did a great job with this one, constantly developing it over the years, with each step closer to perfection then ever before. We are not exaggerating this car’s qualities. Accord’s reliability was characteristic most often praised by everyone, putting it in the one of the best in the world.
Edition for 2013 brought slightly different design and some interesting additions. Even though it didn’t have major updates, and on the surface it only got minor face-lift compared to the previous model, Its fuel economy is even better than before and standard edition has some advanced features that we got used to seeing only in premium sedans. With that in mind it is also still offered at great price which many buyers loved so much last year and so, Accord landed at the position four on this list.
3. Toyota Camry
Originally conceived as a compact car, Camry slowly stretched to full sedan size and soon started proving that is well worth its premium place along other Toyota “crown“ models (Camry, Corolla, Corona and, of course, Crown are all synonyms, only in different languages). Toyota Camry is the best-selling passenger car in North America and it was gunning for the overall number one spot on the market. Even though it didn’t quite make it, recently it still had admirable success in our country, but it looks like its sales are slowing down.
When it comes to this year’s model, it seams that engineers from Toyota finally used help from their business management division. We say that because new Toyota Camry finally came with appropriate price, figure that will make sense to every buyer.
It still doesn’t mean that it represents the best choice for that sum of green (Kia Optima and Hyoundai Sonata both look better on paper in similar editions), but Toyota’s design and quality was, obviously, hard to resist for many Americans.
2. Chevrolet Silverado
With great sales over the previous years, no one really expected Chevy Silverado to miss out on all the fun in our “top 5 best selling vehicles of 2013“ list. Well, this year Silverado marked big increase in sales, actually the biggest on this list! Behind this great success and admirable result is the simple fact that 2014 Chevy Silverado was launched recently.
Iconic truck managed to gain such popularity because of overall great quality. Many people use this vehicle for business and Silverado indeed proved as reliable tool for earning for living. What’s interesting is that GMC’s counterpart, Sierra, which is only slightly different, more luxurious truck, didn’t sell as good as this, already can be said, classic. Never the less, there is no doubt that Silverado deserves the spot and it looks like it won’t give up on taking number one place from its biggest rival.
The No.1: Ford F-Series
Those of you who follow automotive market certainly are not surprised that once again Ford’s remarkable F – Series is dominating the charts. This year, number of sold vehicles rose more than 22 percent compared to the last year’s incredible more than half million units delivered to the customers all around the country. What’s even more interesting F–Series had similar success in Canada and some other countries, making 2013 Ford’s maybe the biggest year since 2007.
So far we have seen twelve generations of Ford’s flagship pickup truck, each better than previous, while current gen was introduced back in 2009. F – Series were changed visually, with new details, but also with drop of second pair of doors in the standard model. Manual transmission was also cut, but the biggest addition was new Electronic Power Assisted Steering which increases driving control and stability of the pickup truck. At the same time this increased safety. Somewhere along these facts there is an explanation why Ford is so popular and why their new concept “Atlas“ gained so much buzz around the internet when it was recently introduced.
Ford F – Series remained the king of US automotive industry while Ford itself remained the top manufacturer int he country. While we are at it, here’s the car manufacturer’s top 5 list so far in the 2013:
-
Ford
-
Toyota
-
Chevrolet
-
Honda
-
Nissan
Did it come as a surprise to you that two pickup trucks were the best selling vehicles in North America? It shouldn’t have been that much of a shocker, other than being a excellent choice either for business or just for fun. It is certain that Americans are crazy for trucks!
