Interview with the driver of the Dodge Nitemare Monster Truck Andy Hoffman, at shows in Bloomsburg, PA. & Springfield, MO. in 1998.
Q) How did you get into Monster Truck Racing?
A) “I got into monster truck racing after selling Kirk Dabney engine parts for several years. One Fall he needed a driver and I told him I would give it a try.”
Q) How long have you been driving Monster Trucks ?
A) “I’ve been driving since then for a total of four years. Prior to monster trucks I competed in truck and tractor pulling.”
Q) What was going through your mind the first time you crushed some cars ?
A) “The first time I crushed cars I thought “This is going to hurt”
Q) Where you nervous ?
A) “Yes, I was nervous.”
Q) How did the crowd react ?
A) “The crowd cheered a lot because I stood the truck straight up and ripped theback bumper off! “
Q) What about now ? Do you still get nervous ?
A) “I still get nervous.”
Q) Why did you decide to buy Kirk’s Nitemare truck from him ?
A) “Dabney gave me a fair price for the Nitemare name and I knew the name was worth more than the truck (at that time) itself.”
Q) Why did you change the body of the truck ?
A) “Actually Kirk converted the truck to a Dodge body because there weren’t very many Dodges out. This is an advantage when getting shows. The truck now also has a Dodge motor.”
Q) How do you prepare for a race ?
A) “To prepare for a race I look the track over very closely beforehand to route out my best course to follow.”
Q) Have you ever rolled the truck ?
A) “I have rolled over twice.”
Q) What was going through your mind as it was happening or directly after the crash ?
A) “As I rolled I was primarily thinking of how much money this would cost to repair.
Q) What do you enjoy most about being a Monster Truck Driver ?
A) “I enjoy the thrill of monster truck racing the most”
Q) What don’t you like about it ?
A) “I least like being away from home so much.”
Q) Do you mind all of the travelling which is involved, to get to the different show’s ?
A) “I like traveling, but it can get old. I miss my son and wife.”
Q) Your truck is now featured on Microsoft’s Monster Truck Madness 2 game, how does that feel knowing people from all over the world can race in your truck?
A) “The MTM2 game was a great opportunity and we are pleased with the end product.”
Q) What about the future of the sport ? What do you think there is to do to advance it further ?
A) “I would like to see a real points racing series organized and more television coverage”
